2. The Rundown

Original Release Date: Sept. 26, 2003

Box Office Earnings: $18,533,765 (opening weekend), $47,726,342 (USA gross)

Critical Acclaim: The Rundown was nominated for five awards, none of them major awards. Out of those five, it won two. The majority of the awards were in the stunt work for the amazing movie.

About the Role: Billed as “The Rock,” Dwayne Johnson took on the role of Beck. This came just afterThe Scorpion King and showed his ability to play the hero of sorts. In this movie, Beck is a “fixer” and his job is to head to Brazil for his client’s son, played by Seann William Scott.

While he’s played the hero plenty of times since, this was his first outing in this type of role.

Simply the Best: Dwayne Johnson and Seann William Scott surprisingly had good chemistry and on-screen timing to make this movie work so well. They also played off against Christopher Walken’s kooky villain so well.

While there have been many great movies since, this one will always stand out. It’s where we saw The Rock first as the hero and who doesn’t love him with that dark hair?
