4. Fast Five

Original Release Date: April 29, 2011

Box Office Earnings: $86,198,765 (opening weekend), $209,837,675 (USA gross)

Critical Acclaim: Fast Five is another movie that wasn’t nominated for any of the major awards around the world. It was nominated for 30 awards around the world, winning nine of them, including Film Music at the BMI Film & TV Awards and Best Action Movie and the IGN Summer Movie Awards.

About the Role: As we go into heists in the Fast and the Furious franchise, Dwayne Johnson steps in as DSS Agent Luke Hobbs. He immediately makes it clear that he won’t give up on chasing the group. Of course, as all the “good guys” do, they find out that the Toretto family may not be as bad as they seem.

In this particular movie, get to see Johnson as the hero that you kind of don’t want to see win. With the lead characters on the wrong side of the law, you want to see the law lose in the end. The problem is that it’s The Rock and you want to see him win. Feelings are extremely conflicted as the movies move on from street racing to heists.

Simply the Best: There have been many Fast and the Furious movies out there. I know many will have the seventh installment in their heads for one of the best The Rock moments, but it’s Fast Five that stands out for me because he gets more time on the screen.

There’s no doubt that this movie helped to reignite the passion for the movie franchise and helped it continue the way it has.
