National Treasure and the second installment opened in theaters to over $800 dollars worldwide, why isn’t National Treasure 3 out yet?

It’s always a good sign that a second installment grosses more than its original. It shows one of two things. First, it means the movie has captured the audience’s attention and they want more. Gotta give the audience what they want, right? After all, moviegoers are paying for it. With that said, fans deserve a National Treasure 3!

National Treasure grossed over $345 million dollars and National Treasure: Book of Secrets grossed over $455 million dollars worldwide, totaling $800 million dollars respectively. What’s taking so long for the third movie in the franchise to be released?

These movies really make history interesting for me. The movies are both entertaining and educational at the same time, which is a perfect balance. Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, and Justin Bartha were such a good cast, having great chemistry with each other.

More from Disney Movies

They keep trying to be ahead of Ian and his gang before they discover the treasure that Ben, Abigail, and Riley are looking for. They have to go to unique places to look for the treasure. What makes matters worse is that the FBI is on top of them as well. So this is quite an adventure. What adds the cherry on top to these movies? Riley and his lines were always spot-on, giving audiences many laughs.

We are overdue on National Treasure 3 and fans are always asking for a third movie. What’s the hold-up? Back in July of this year, director Jon Turteltaub, who directed both movies, told Steve Weintraub of Collider that Disney has other priorities at the moment (Marvel, DC, Lucasfilm).

"“When National Treasure first got made, there was a lot more money to go around. Everybody got paid nicely. The problem with getting the third one made isn’t the people who are getting paid saying, “I’m not doing it unless you pay me a lot!” It’s really that Disney feels they have other films they want to make that they think will make them more money. I think they’re wrong. I think they’re right about the movies they’re making; they’re obviously doing a really good job at making great films. I just think this would be one of them, and they don’t quite realize how much the Internet is begging for a third National Treasure.”"

That’s a bummer for us, as we have to keep waiting. Fans are craving more of these movies, and hopefully it doesn’t take too long before the actors are unable to do these movies due to their ages or commitment to other projects. At least a script was close, unfortunately, not enough to convenience Disney to move forward.
