First look of Vampire Diaries Matt Donovan in Legacies
By Sefket Nouri
A year and a half later, Matt Donovan will be appearing back on our TV screens in Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies!
It’s been a while since we last saw sheriff Matt Donovan on our TV screens. When we see him back on our screens, it’ll be amazing since Matt was such an awesome character in The Vampire Diaries. Now we’ll be seeing him in the Vampire Diaries spin-off, Legacies.
Entertainment Weekly released the first look of sheriff Matt Donovan which can be seen here. He is pictured with Alaric and Hope on the street. It seems Matt has a concerned look on his face. It wouldn’t surprise me if something is already is going down. Check out the picture in the link and let us know what you think is going on!
It seems Zach Roerig will have a recurring role in Legacies since he’s still a sheriff. I cannot complain about that. Best part of all this? It’ll be in the same setting as its mother show, Mystic Falls. It’ll be in Mystic Falls’ Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted.

The difference this time around? We’ll be seeing Zach’s character differently. His goal is to keep the supernatural’s out of Mystic Falls and wants the town to only have human beings. Showrunner Julie Plec tells Samantha Highfill of EW:
"“For the first time, Matt Donovan isn’t torn by a commitment to protecting his best friends against other people in their peer group,” showrunner Julie Plec says. “His singular goal is to keep the supernatural business on the DL, if not out of Mystic Falls, and to protect the town. So that puts him continually at odds with Alaric and the kids at the school. He says very clearly in an early episode, ‘If I get so much as a wind of your kids causing any trouble, I will come for them.’ So he’s both friend and antagonist at the same time.”"
Also, if you haven’t heard: Steven R. McQueen is reprising his role of Jeremy. TV Line reported that Jeremy will be in the third episode of Legacies. I’m not sure if Steven has a recurring role or not, but Julie Plec has stated the door is open for all the cast members to return.
Paul Wesley will be directing an episode of the Legacies, but I’m not sure if he would reprise his role as Stefan – if that can even be done considering he died in the Vampire Diaries series finale. Candice King will be absent on Legacies, which is disappointing. But I don’t blame her, as she’s been guest starring in a few episodes of The Originals and she was a regular in The Vampire Diaries. Hopefully, she’ll appear later on during the show’s running.
