Best: Henry Winkler finally wins an Emmy

“I wrote this 43 years ago,” said Henry Winkler. In 1976, Henry Winkler was nominated for his iconic role as Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli in Happy Days. Winkler never won an Emmy for playing The Fonz. Fast forward to last night and Winkler finally received the golden statue for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for HBO’s Barry. Winkler drew a thunderous ovation upon his win. This Emmy was long overdue.

Worst: Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph explain Emmys history

Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph are two very funny comedians. They were two of the most recognizable stars on Saturday Night Live in the mid 2000s. However, their Emmys history skit missed the mark. There was so much potential because of Armisen and Rudolph’s previous chemistry together, but the deadpan skit was not their best work.

Best: The Americans goes out on a high

The Americans was about to join the long list of great television shows that were barely recognized by the Television Academy. However, that all changed last night as the FX drama brought home two Emmys in writing and acting respectively. The more memorable one will be Matthew Rhys winning Best Actor in a Drama Series, as many critics believed this award was long overdue. Now, if only they rewarded Keri Russell with the same honor…

Worst: The Handmaid’s Tale gets shut out in major acting categories

Say what you want about the controversial ending to season two. However, the acting in this past season in The Handmaid’s Tale was spectacular. Because of that, the Hulu show should have walked away with at least one Emmy from a major category. Joseph Fiennes, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, and Yvonne Strahovski ( who should have won) all lost in the supporting category while the show’s lead, Elisabeth Moss, failed to repeat as Best Actress in a Drama.

Best: Glenn Weiss proposes on stage after win

The best and most memorable moment of the night belonged to Glenn Weiss. Weiss from The Oscars won the award for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. However, it was what he did next that stole the show. When thanking his then-girlfriend Jan Svendsen, Weiss said, “You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.” Weiss then invited Jan onstage and proposed to her, to which she happily accepted.
