After a few episodes mostly focusing on the bigger storyline, Supernatural Season 4, Episode 5 took a risk with a monster movie special. Which lines stood out the most?

Supernatural Season 4 opened with four episodes that mostly stuck to the bigger picture. Technically, “Metamorphosis” could be classed as a monster-of-the-week episode, but it was a big one for Sam as he saw himself in their Rugaru. Episode 5, titled “Monster Movie,” was the first one to really focus just on the monster of the week.

It was also one that took a lot of risk. This episode pulled from a lot of classic horror movies and was produced in black and white. It had all the cheesy elements of the horror classics, including good ole Dracula.

For me, the episode is a special one as it opened the world of Supernatural to my husband. It also has some excellent lines. Here are the five best from Supernatural Season 4, Episode 5.

But what we can do is chop off some vamps’ heads. Come on, man, it’s like the good old days, an honest-to-goodness monster hunt.

It’s funny that Dean would say this. This line clearly acknowledged that for a number of episodes, the story was bigger and more focused. This one was all about bringing the fun back, and it sure did. “Monster Movie” also gave us some throwbacks to the past, which makes it exciting for the old-timers.

Room’s paid for, and it’s Oktoberfest. Come on, brother. Beer and bar wenches.

This is just typical Dean. After getting back from Hell, he just wanted to have fun. We knew that something was happening deep down–that there was trauma there–but he was hiding it in the need to have fun. At first, this line didn’t mean much. Over the years, it’s meant more and become one of my favorites because it connects to Dean’s actions in later years.

Please. Dean, maybe angels can pull you out of Hell but no one can do that.

Trust Sam to say it as it is. This line definitely works better when you consider the whole scene. Dean and Sam are talking about how Dean has no scars that he had before death. Castiel pulling him from the pit got rid of all the scars over the years, so Dean believes he’s a virgin again. Yeah, nobody could do that, right?

Of course, yes, but I have a coupon.

This was just a very cheesy line but it had me. This is a monster who is supposed to be scary. We get why he’s asking about garlic (although it probably does absolutely nothing and it’s more for the movie) but then he just has to pull out the coupon line. Dracula wouldn’t really be that bothered about saving money on a pizza, making it clear there was something weirder about this case.

Do not use such language in the presence of my bride!

I know for many this line doesn’t mean much, but it’s one that makes me chuckle for a few reasons. At first, it was purely because of the language really not being that bad. However, actors weren’t allowed to swear in movies pre-1970s, so the time that these classic horrors were filmed and this shapeshifter wouldn’t have been used to it in movies.

Now there’s the Avengers connection. I just think of Captain America telling people off for swearing.
