13. Season 6, Episode 22, “Shiny Happy People”

I’ll give a hint of things to come, this isn’t going to be the first Season 6 episode you see on the rest of this list. This isn’t one that’s on because of a death. It’s not even sad tears you’ll cry. This is one of those episodes that offers the feel-good elements at the very end.

For those who need a prompt, Grey’s Anatomy Season 6, Episode 22 is the episode with Demi Lovato. She’s the young girl whose family believes she’s suffering from a form of psychosis that runs in the family. After all, she does attempt to claw her own eyes out.

Alex steps up in this episode. He knows that this isn’t psychosis. She’s suffering from something else; something that’s curable with a small surgery. First, he has to prove that she’s suffering from what he thinks she is. That requires a small test.

The minute Alex realizes he’s right, we all get that sense of relief. That’s when the tears start falling. After all this time, the family has thought of the worst-case scenario. Instead, it’s just a case of this young girl hearing her own body and it’s excruciating for her.

You’ll also find yourself torn during this episode. Hearing the story, it’s easy to understand why the parents make their assumptions. Just thankfully, she had a doctor like Alex by her side. This is at a time when Alex is in and out of the dog house for various problems, but it’s easy to shed a tear when he’s just so amazing with his patients.
