Marvel’s Loki and Scarlet Witch will return in their own spin-off series on Disney’s streaming service

Everyone’s favorite Marvel trickster and the Sokovian mutant, along with other MCU characters, will get their own spin-off series on Disney’s streaming service

Marvel Studios is developing live-action limited series, unlike the Netflix shows that get multiple seasons, for Disney’s online streaming service that will star various MCU characters, including Loki and Scarlet Witch. Why is every show I want to watch on a streaming service? First, there was Netflix, then Hulu, then Amazon, and now Marvel has to torture me by putting more of their shows on yet another streaming service? They’ve already taken over Hollywood, must they rule over internet viewing too?

They’ve done an evil thing too, by making Loki and Wanda Maximoff the stars. They’re evil geniuses.

Marvel announced last year that they were developing multiple spin-off series for the streaming service, but I think most fans assumed that it’d be like their other series, such as their Hulu shows, Cloak & Dagger and The Runaways, in which they take relatively unknown comic characters and give them a story. Now we know for sure that we’re going to see familiar faces this time around, and not only familiar faces but the faces of characters who have served on the sidelines for years.

More from Marvel Movies

Loki is a beloved character (my second favorite under Bucky) and no doubt people will flock to any series/movie starring him. I, for one, wanted to rip out the Russo brothers hearts’ for Loki’s death, and I remember the cries all over the internet when the image of his dead corpse leaked online.

Both Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston are expected to reprise their MCU roles. Additional projects are also in the works, but the other characters involved are yet to be known.

Marvel and Disney are looking to make these shows six to eight episodes long, and have granted them budgets that match or even rival studio movies. Don’t expect Thor or Captain America to drop by. The spin-offs will not feature any high-ranking Avenger characters. Think of these series as movie replacements for any major character who didn’t get their own movie and aren’t likely to.

In that case, I’d count out Black Widow since she is getting her own movie. But it means that we can include Bucky, Shuri, Hawkeye, Sam, and Valkyrie as possible series headliners.

Both Loki and Scarlet Witch died in Infinity War, Loki pre-snap and Wanda from the snap. Their confirmed return in the series’ doesn’t confirm their deaths to be overturned in Avengers 4 because they could be prequels. Loki has millions of possible stories to tell and Wanda has a whole Sokovia backstory we haven’t heard.

If we do get a story about Wanda’s life in Sokovia then we might see Aaron-Taylor Johnson reprise his role as her twin brother, Pietro “Quicksilver” Maximoff.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce all the shows but as they’re still in early development no writers have been attached yet and no release date has been announced.
