Space Jam 2 is officially in development: Production to begin in 2019

After a long wait, Space Jam 2 is officially in development, with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler producing, Terence Nance behind the helm, and LeBron James as the star.

After four years of waiting, Space Jam 2 is officially in development. LeBron James will be replacing Michael Jordan in this second installment. Filming will commence in 2019 during the NBA off-season. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler will be producing the sequel and Terence Nance will be behind the helm. The director for the first installment Space Jam was Joe Pytka.

Le Bron James’ company SpringHill Entertainment has shared an Instagram post today of Space Jam 2 officially in development. Bugs Bunny on the left side, LeBron James next, director Terence Nance to the right of James and producer Ryan Coogler all the way on the right side.

I love the first Space Jam, which was also released 22 years ago. There is something about it that I just love. Perhaps its the nostalgia? I doubt it’s just the way that they made the movie that makes me enjoy watching it multiple times.

More from Movies

It’s pretty cool watching a movie with cartoon characters (Looney Toons) along with actors.  I also love the soundtracks “Fly Like An Eagle” and “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble”. “I Believe I Can Fly” isn’t a bad soundtrack. Oh, and who can forget: the amazing Space Jam theme song.

Space Jam is what made me love basketball and I’m sure I’m not the only one to say that. It makes you want to play basketball, especially watching Michael in the movie playing the game?

Come on, count me in! Michael Jordan was my idol when I was a kid, holding sports magazines with him in it felt awesome. I believe many of the 90s kids were inspired by him.

LeBron James also talked about Ryan Coogler and the movie Space Jam 2. He tells The Hollywood Reporter in a statement:

"“I loved his vision” for Black Panther, James tells The Hollywood Reporter, noting that when he was a kid growing up in Akron, Ohio, there were no black superheroes. “So for Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it’s amazing.”“The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie,” says James, “It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”"

It’ll be interesting to see how the second installment will be, especially with Michael Jordan being replaced (Yeah, I’m not letting this go). They need to make sure its done right.
