Arrow Season 7: Shadowhunter’s Katherine McNamara joins the cast
Arrow Season 7 is about to get a member of the ShadowFam on set. Katherine McNamara lands her first post-Shadowhunters role.
With less than three weeks to go until the Arrow Season 7 premiere, there’s a new cast member. The show is getting a member of the Shadowfam in the form of Katherine McNamara. It will be her first post-Shadowhunters role.
McNamara has landed the role of recurring character Maya, who’s described as a scrappy street fighter. She’s been nicknamed “Buffy the Superhero Slayer,” which suggests she isn’t going to be on the side of the vigilantes right now. Of course, that could change with time.

As Shadowhunters fans continue the fight to #SaveShadowhunters, there are now concerns of what this means for a potential future of the show. Filming on the two-hour finale movie wrapped back in August, but that hasn’t stopped the Shadowfam taking their foot of the gas. This is an important show for a variety of reasons, with the biggest being for the LGBT representation in the form of Malec. Admit it; there’s nothing like them on TV anywhere!

Don’t stop fighting, Shadowfam. This Arrow Season 7 role is a recurring one. Sure, it could turn into something bigger in the future (Buffy‘s Spike was only supposed to be a couple of episodes and ended up being a series regular character), but there’s still a chance that McNamara would be up for coming back to Toronto (or wherever filming would take place) should a network or streaming service save the series.
But for now, there’s a chance to see McNamara on screen elsewhere. We don’t have details yet as to when Maya will be on Arrow Season 7, but it is in the first half of the season.
She may be filming episodes soon, as she tweeted a photo of jetting off somewhere with passport in hand. Arrow films in Vancouver, Canada. If she’s getting ready to film now, it suggests she’ll be in Episode 7 or maybe 8 onward. That’s not too long to wait, right?
