Robert Englund will reprise his role of Freddy Krueger once more in Halloween themed episode of The Goldbergs.

Fans have been begging Englund to return as Freddy after being disappointed by the 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street remake where Jackie Earl Haley took over (I might be the only person who liked Haley’s performance) and they’ve finally gotten their wish. Robert Englund claimed he’d never pick up the gardening claw again and that it was time for a younger actor to be Freddy, but he’ll become the Dream Demon one more time in a special Halloween episode of The Goldbergs!

It may be in a sitcom, but we’ll take any form of Freddy we can get, plus Freddy Krueger is probably the only horror villain who could run around in a sitcom and not come off looking like an idiot. This will be the eleventh time Englund will play Freddy, the last time being a voice role on The Simpsons.

About to go into its sixth season on ABC, The Goldbergs is an ’80s set sitcom loosely based on the show’s creator, Adam Goldberg and his childhood experiences, reenacted from multiple home videos he recorded as a child. It shows the reality of the 1980s through a young Adam Goldberg’s eyes. The Halloween episode, titled “Nightmare on Elk Avenue,” centers on Adam’s fears after he sees the original movie, A Nightmare on Elm Street. I’m guessing he falls asleep and has a nightmare like in the films.

More from ABC

Horror fans and Nightmare on Elm Street fans will have something extra to celebrate this Halloween, I haven’t seen much of the sitcom but I’m definitely going to watch this episode.

This cameo is a genius celebration of both ’80s culture and Halloween, a perfect combo for The Goldbergs. We couldn’t have asked for anything better.

This isn’t the first time The Goldbergs crossed over with famous films. In May of this year, Rick Moranis reprised his Spaceballs villain Dark Helmet in season five episode twenty-one. Now Englund is following him.

Englund promised once already that he was done playing Freddy, but he’s clearly not. Maybe this a sign that he’ll return for one more “one last job” and star in another Nightmare film, maybe a cameo in another remake if they’re brave enough to try again.

Grey’s Anatomy S16 should be the end if Ellen Pompeo leaves. dark. Next

The sixth season of The Goldbergs will start on September 26 on ABC with the Halloween episode airing on October 31 as the sixth episode of the season.
