Greatest Grey’s Anatomy Doctors – No. 5: Dr. Richard Weber

Here it is, Grey’s fans: the top five. Coming in at number 5 is the dad of dads, Dr. Richard Webber.

Webber is a father figure to everybody. He may only have one kid, Maggie, who he didn’t learn about until she was grown up, but everyone in that hospital is like son or daughter to him.

And he treats them like that too. He will be kind, offer praise and advice when needed, but will come down on you hard if you put a toe out of line.

Putting the father figure brownie points to one side, Richard also gets accolades for teaching Bailey, Meredith, and others all he knows. Every great surgeon to come out of that hospital has had mentoring from Webber.

The only reason Webber doesn’t get ranked any higher is because of how he behaved when under the influence of alcohol. Let me be very clear: his alcoholism is not the problem—that’s a genuine medical problem that can’t be fixed over night. I’m talking about his decision to hide it, and purposely put patients’ lives in danger. If he didn’t want to reveal his affliction that is fine, but you come up with another excuse not to perform the surgery.
