The CW’s Charmed reboot has been the most successful freshman for the network so far. Does this mean it will get a full-season order and a second season?

Charmed debuted with high figures but that didn’t mean it was a success for The CW. After all, there were always going to be those who checked it out to compare it to Classic Charmed. What really mattered was the figures for the second episode.

So far, the show is the most successful freshman for the network, bringing in total viewing numbers higher than the likes of Supernatural and Supergirl in the pilot. The second episode continued the trend for higher ratings than Supergirl, which has the earlier Sunday night timeslot.

The show has also been better than All American, which airs Wednesday nights following Riverdale. Overall, Charmed has in third place for the network in the week. These are excellent figures and it will be interesting to see how that continues next week. It will also be interesting to see the ratings for the Legacies premiere on Oct. 25.

Overall, the ratings are good enough for The CW to consider a full-season order for the reboot. Why wouldn’t it? This is the network that handed a full-season order and Season 2 renewal to Dynasty when it was gaining far lower ratings. The pilot only opened to 0.37 in the demo and 1.259 million total viewers, according to TV Series Finale.

On average, it pulled in 0.684 million total viewers and got 0.18 in the demo, which is low even for The CW. Of course, we don’t know what the app viewings were like and whether the show has been worthwhile financially for The CW in other areas, but this is a good way to hazard a guess at Charmed‘s future.

With higher ratings than Dynasty, there’s a good chance that Charmed will land both a full-season order and a second season. The full-season order may come in during the next couple of weeks. The CW likely wants to wait to see how Legacies performs. It can then make a decision for all three of its freshmen shows. The season already has 18 episodes confirmed, so only four more episodes will need to be ordered.

As for the second season, that news will likely come early 2019 (sometime between January and March). The network won’t grant renewals until it considers all its shows. The network has a habit of offering most of its shows a renewal at the same time. But as long as the ratings stay higher than Dynasty‘s last season, the chances are extremely high.
