Marvel characters, The Winter Soldier and The Falcon, are going to team up in a limited series with Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

I know now that Halloween miracles do come true. Finally! The buddy movie surrounding the Mackie/Stan friendship fans have been praying for is coming to life. I never thought Marvel would do it, but they are. It’ll be like Sherlock and Watson, but without any high-functioning sociopaths and blogs.

James “Bucky” Barnes played by Sebastian Stan, made his first appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger as the best friend of Steve Rogers before he fell off a train mid-way into the movie. Bucky returned from the grave as The Winter Soldier, a Russian assassin brainwashed to do Hydra’s bidding until he was rescued by Cap.

Bucky is not only Steve’s best friend but the motivation for his actions in Civil War and the break-up of the Avengers. The friendship, named “Stucky” by fans, was the emotional core of all three Captain America movies, with Cap giving up his shield twice for the man who’s nothing less than his brother.

Bucky has become a fan-favorite since his first appearance. His brooding face and tortured story make it impossible not to love him. Fans have been petitioning for a Winter Soldier solo movie for years now and have high hopes that he’ll appear in the Black Widow solo movie.

More from Marvel Movies

Sam Wilson/The Falcon played by Anthony Mackie, made his debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a former soldier who helps Cap take down Hydra. Where Bucky is Cap’s oldest friend and brother in heart, Sam is his best friend and confidante. His character has had a few bad run-ins with The Winter Soldier, like getting kicked off a Helicarrier and being blown off a road, but once they officially met as Bucky and Sam in Civil War, the love-hate relationship started.

Civil War was fantastic, but it was a Winter-Falcon moment that stole the show. Their on-screen moments together are limited but full of humor, something that’s probably influenced by the great chemistry between Stan and Mackie off camera.

The Winter-Falcon series is set to stream on Disney’s new streaming service that will start up in 2019. It’s one of the many Marvel shows ordered on the service that’s to be centered on characters from the MCU who have yet to appear in their own standalone films.

We’ve already learned that Loki and Scarlet Witch will be getting their own individual series, set to be six to eight episodes long. There’s also a rumor that Nick Fury might get his own show, and it’s been recently reported that Vision may co-star beside Wanda in the Scarlet Witch series.

According to Variety, Malcolm Spellman has been hired to write the new Winter-Falcon team-up, making it the first of the proposed Marvel series streamed on Disney to find a writer and start its development stage already.

Unlike the Marvel shows on Netflix like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, these limited series on the Disney service will be produced by both Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, who is expected to be very proactive in their development. Each individual series is going to have much larger budgets than other TV projects. Think a HBO or a mini-movie budget.

Stan and Mackie have discussed teaming up for their own project several times in the past. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Stan gave his take on a possible Winter-Falcon film, comparing it to a buddy-comedy.

"“To me, it’s like Martin Brest film classic, Midnight Run, you know. It’s really just sort of in my head, like, 48 Hours or a buddy comedy from the ’80s or the ’90s. That’s how I see it.”"

The last time we saw Bucky and Sam they weren’t looking so good, getting turned to dust will do that, but it’s already kind of, sort of, common knowledge that everyone’s going to come back to life in Avengers 4. Bucky is now living in Wakanda as “White Wolf” and there have been some rumors about Sam being the one to replace Cap when Steve Rogers retires or dies. If the two partner up, it’ll most likely take place after all this happens.

I don’t see how it could be prior to the events of Infinity War because Bucky spent all that time in recovery and I doubt Sam visited that often. So, I’m going to say it’s some time after Avengers 4 when the series is set.

The Disney streaming service is expected to start-up sometime in 2019. There’s been no release date for any of the Marvel series as of yet.
