The 4400 is the latest show getting the reboot treatment. Once again, it’s over at CBS’ Millennial network. Is The CW becoming the reboot network?

When you hear of a reboot, it seems there’s one place on primetime it’s going to be: The CW. The 4400 is the latest show to get the reboot treatment and, yes, it’s heading to the CBS Millennial network. Is The CW becoming the reboot network and what does it mean for the future?

Just over the last handful of years, the network has seen various reboots of older shows and movies. Charmed is the one for this year and Dynasty took the label last season. There were even talks of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina making its way to The CW, although this technically isn’t a reboot of the 90s series and more an adaptation of the Archie comics.

Back in the fall 2016 season, The CW had another reboot. Frequency was one of the two fall freshman shows not to succeed and it was a reboot. Most fans already knew of the movie of the same name and the show pretty much followed the same storyline with a few character details changed.

Sometimes reboots can work. Maybe this is a good time to bring back a show like The 4400, which is a story of 4,400 people who go missing from various countries and various points of time throughout the course of history. One day, they all turn back up. They’ve never aged and don’t know where they’ve been.

With Manifest taking off well on NBC, it’s not surprising that CBS wants to find a way to counter that style of sci-fi show. What better than a reboot of a show that has a cult following similar to Charmed‘s. The big question is whether the reboot is really necessary.

One of the downsides of the original series is that it was canceled without an ending (like many other USA Network shows, which the original was). At least The CW tries to give as many shows as possible an ending, so there’s hope this reboot will treat this show fairly.

My other question is: what’s next? There were attempts at Dallas and there are talks of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. What will The CW pick up next?

Next. 5 shows to watch on Acorn TV in November 2018. dark
