AMC’s President of Programming David Madden was recently quoted saying The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes could cross paths with Michonne again. Will this take place in The Rick Grimes-led movie?

Following the premiere of Andrew Lincoln’s final episode of The Walking Dead, both AMC’s David Madden and TWD showrunner Angela Kang chimed in to answer questions regarding the optimistic departure of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and a potential reunion with his family.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, AMC’s President of Programming David Madden gave fans hope of seeing Rick Grimes reunited with Michonne (Danai Gurira) by saying their paths would cross again. He didn’t explicitly say how or when but Madden’s comments all but guarantee a reunion. Here’s what he had to say:

"“I can’t really say to you what will exactly happen in the movie, but I have high hopes that. Let me put it this way: I have high hopes that Rick and Michonne’s paths will cross again. I’ll just say that.”"

The problem with what Madden said is Lincoln won’t be returning to the television series, making a reunion with Michonne quite difficult to picture. He’ll be featured in the upcoming Walking Dead movies but Lincoln himself has said he’s done with the tv show. Furthermore, any reunion between Michonne and Rick will have to take place in one of the upcoming Walking Dead movies.

There’s been no official announcement of Gurira’s involvement in the feature films, but after hearing Madden tease Rick and Michonne’s reunion, it’s safe to say the news will drop eventually.

The Rick Grimes movies are set to begin production in early 2019, which means we’ll presumably hear of which Walking Dead alums will reprise their roles alongside Lincoln around the same time. So far, we have Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and Heath (Corey Hawkins). Yes, Heath will appear alongside Rick and Jadis.

More from AMC

The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang recently confirmed Heath was abducted by Jadis’ people and delivered to the helicopter back in Season 7. She didn’t confirm whether or not Heath would be in the upcoming movies, but considering Rick and Jadis are headed to the same location for said films, Heath will probably be there when they arrive.

As for Michonne, how she’ll cross paths with Rick again is the biggest mystery fans want answers to. Will she be abducted by the same people, will Rick send for her — or will Michonne find a helicopter of her own and track them down?

The most logical explanation is that Michonne will find one of those mystery helicopters conducting one of their pickups and ambush them. A confrontation would ensue until they’re subdued. Michonne would then feasibly interrogate them to learn who else has been abducted. They probably won’t tell Michonne right away, but with a little prodding from her katana, she can easily persuade them to loosen their tongues.

dark. Next. The Walking Dead: Does Judith call Michonne her mom?

During this interrogation, the pilot and his handler would give up their pickups in the area— casually describing Rick in their index of captives. At that point, it won’t take Michonne long to persuade her new friends of her need for a lift back to their home — bringing her one step closer to Rick. Though, the bigger question we should be asking is whether or not Judith Grimes will be there too?

The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC. The Rick Grimes movies begin production in 2019.
