4 times The Simpsons went Hollywood
By Grant Butler
The Simpsons may be animated, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t some of the most famous characters to ever appear on a TV screen. Aside from having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, there have been plenty of times the show has had a unique take on the world of celebrity and filmmaking.
Here are four times The Simpsons took on Hollywood.
After accidentally discovering the world of paparazzi photography, Homer discovers that it’s a way to make good money and promptly becomes Springfield’s top celebrity photographer. But he quickly becomes the bane of all the local celebrities and after he pushes them to the breaking point, they find a unique way to get back at Homer.
When a day at the beach doesn’t go as planned, Homer finds out that Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin have secretly purchased a house in Springfield to get away from Hollywood. Later when their friend Ron Howard visits Homer offers to be their personal assistant when they talk about how they can’t run errands in town. But of course it doesn’t go as planned and soon Homer spills the beans about their presence in the area.
Homer attends a screening of Mel Gibson’s new movie and hates it. In typical Homer fashion, he doesn’t hesitate to express himself on comment cards used to gauge audience opinion. Mel Gibson sees Homer’s comments and appreciates the brutal honesty. He then goes to the Simpson house and seeks Homer’s help in making his movie. Arriving in Hollywood, Homer wastes no time in causing mayhem with Mel.
In one of the shows greatest episodes, Krusty the Clown winds up with his show cancelled after having to compete with a new ventriloquist act. Forlorn without an audience to perform for, Lisa and Bart help him stage a star-studded comeback special. Just some of Krusty’s friends who help him out are Bette Midler, Hugh Hefner, Johnny Carson, and Luke Perry.
