Timeless Finale ending with a hope of a Season 3 pickup?

There is less than a month to go until the Timeless Finale Movie, but will it be the end? It certainly looks as though it’s ending with the hope of a Season 3 pickup.
Timeless fans, and that includes me by the ay, are caught between a rock and a hard place right now. In less than a month, the NBC series will be back with the official Timeless Movie Finale. Which is great, the time team is back. But it’s for the very last time, which is not so great.
Or is it the end? Because everything I’m looking at tells me they r hoping for a Season 3 pickup.

I could be stretching things a bit here, but I recently want to see a Timeless Season 3 happen. So I’ll let you all decided where my train of thought has gone.
During an interview with ET, Matt Lanter, who plays Wyatt in the time travel series, spoke about the Timeless Finale and how the ending would go. Or more specifically, who would be around during the end scenes.
"“What I think is pretty cool is the end end — the very end — doesn’t end on us. It doesn’t end on the team. It’s larger than us three, or it’s larger than the team, which I think is cool,”"
Lanter then went on to say:
"“It’s a little bit of a closed chapter for our characters, but things are left open at the end of this series finale,”"
Also, in an interview with TV Guide, Lanter revealed to them the following:
"“There are some things are left open-ended on purpose, which I like.”"
So just based on those small snippets alone, we know that the main three characters of the time-team will not feature in the final acts of the movie and despite this being the Timeless Finale they will leave some of the story open-ended.
Why do that when it’s supposed to be the end?
Well, the only thing I can gather is they are leaving it open-ended in the hope it will get picked up for a Season 3. Which I know a lot of you would love to see happen.

However, while this certainly seems to be the idea. The cast, and probably the crew as well, are not expecting it to be renewed, expressing their opinion on how saddened that Season 3 is not happening. It would appear that the Timeless Finale serves as a story that is, for all intents and purpose, to end the franchise but allow it to be brought back one day if need be.
