While not a memorable movie, High Voltage is still a movie to add to your to-watch list for a silly good time.

High Voltage follows Jimmy (David Arquette) a once popular rock and roll star who is now in denial of his age and refusing to accept his days in the spotlight are over. Desperate for stardom, he forms a band when he discovers Scott (Ryan Donowho) and Rachel’s (Allie Gonino) talent.

If this all sounds too cliche, that’s because it is. However, a freak accident electrifies the plot — in more ways than one.

As silly as it may be, it’s not an absurd movie. High Voltage is a lot of fun and the perfect movie to see when looking for a film you can easily follow. It’s clear the cast had a great time filming and working together, and never does the movie take itself too seriously. In fact, High Voltage uses its ludicrous plots and scenes to its advantage.

This isn’t to say the movie is all nonsensical. It does feature a serious tone at times. The horror doesn’t reach the greatness of other movies in the genre, but it still deserves a nod for its drama. The film’s performances are the highlight of the movie and take away from the silliness of the plot.
