Is Riverdale’s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa the new hit screenwriter for teen shows?
By Sefket Nouri
Shows such as Once Upon a Time and Pretty Little Liars have ended. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is now bringing in hit shows: Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Once Upon a Time, Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth were among the most popular teen shows with support for on social media. Those three shows ended (as all shows do) and now enters Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who now brought in popular hit teen shows Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has entered the teen world, making a splash by creating Riverdale — which he did an incredible job with as Riverdale is so popular among teens. It is adapted from the Archie Comics.
Roberto also created Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, also an Archie Comics adaptation and a darker version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch from the 90s. And the fact he was able to pull it off and the show is already popular, it says a lot about Roberto’s talent.

I have a feeling that Roberto is the new hit screenwriter for teen shows. Here are some examples of other talented screenwriters and their shows that they’ve written for teens:
Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis
- Once Upon a Time
- LOST
Dan Schneider
- iCarly
- Victorious
- Drake and Josh
- Zoey 101
- The Amanda Show
….and many other popular shows.
Ryan Murphy
- Glee
- American Horror Story
Julie Plec
- The Vampire Diaries
- The Originals
- Legacies
Peter Paige and Brad Bredeweg and Joanna Johnson
- The Fosters
- Good Trouble (Spin-off of The Fosters, Premiering January 8, 2019)
My favorite shows are The Vampire Diaries, The Fosters, Once Upon a Time, Drake and Josh and Legacies. Good Trouble will be the next one on the list once it premieres. I had to share my favorite shows. I cannot resist, sorry.
If Roberto keeps bringing in a few more hit shows, he could be the new Dan Schneider/Julie Plec for teen shows — At least in my opinion. Although, that may take quite a while as it takes years to make multiple hit shows. But so far, he’s doing an incredible job.
What I noticed while I watch Roberto’s shows is that he’s able to draw you in. You get sucked in and he ends the episodes on great cliffhangers, making you want to keep watching. That’s what I call a great writer and his shows have a lot of quality.
It doesn’t feel like it’s less effort in the episodes or making the episodes feel rushed. He’s become one of my favorite screenwriters besides Peter Paige, Brad Bredeweg, Joanna Johnson, Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec.
There’s also tons of ships in Riverdale such as Archie and Veronica, Jughead and Betty, Cheryl and Toni. You’ll see this all over Twitter. Riverdale scored an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina scored a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. That clearly speaks volumes about how popular these two shows are.
