Vikings Season 5B: What’s in store for Torvi and Ubbe?

Vikings Season 5B has a lot of players. Torvi and Ubbe come as a team this season but what’s in store for the two?

It’s not been an easy run for Torvi throughout Vikings. Initially the second wife of Jarl Borg and then the common-law wife of Bjorn, she now finds herself in a relationship with Ubbe. It is with Bjorn’s blessing but it will also come with its complications in Vikings Season 5B.

As for Ubbe, he’s had some twists and turns in his story. Now on the opposite side of a war to his full brothers, he remains loyal to the woman who killed his mother. It’s an odd thing to write, but this is a man who doesn’t put blood first and, instead, puts honor and loyalty before everything else.

Will this be enough for him and Torvi to survive the next 10 episodes? What’s in store for them during Vikings Season 5B?

More commitment between the two

Let’s start with the fact that Torvi and Ubbe are taking the next step in their relationship. They’re going to be married in the second half of Season 5, something that many of us could see coming a mile off.

What’s going to be interesting is whether Ubbe shared that he allowed Hvitserk to live. Because of that act of mercy, Hvitserk was able to kill Torvi’s eldest son, Guthrum. While Torvi would accept that people die in battle, this is her son and it was at the hands of her brother-in-law. It’s not going to be easy to accept that her husband allowed the man to live in battle in the first place.

However, the two are loyal to one another. It’s not clear whether the marriage is common-law or whether there was a religious ceremony, but for all intents and purposes, the two are committed to each other.

Trouble in England

Things aren’t looking great when it comes to landing in England. Lagatha has to make some sort of deal to get land that she and her people can farm on. That’s the main reason they’re heading there. With King Alfred on the throne, there’s certainly more opportunity than if Aethelwulf was there.

However, there’s trouble in England. This is a time that the Vikings were threatening the way of life in the various English kingdoms. Alfred’s Wessex is the only one that stands untouched, much like in The Last Kingdom. Alfred will want it to stay that way and what better option is there than to have a Viking army at his dispense.

This will set up Torvi and Ubbe’s storyline. Both are warriors. Ubbe wants to prove that he is as strong as Ragnar, while Torvi continues to remain loyal to Lagatha, the woman who made her who she is now.

The two will come across the Black Danes, “a scary bunch of people,” as Georgia Hirst puts it. Ubbe specifically is going to get into some trouble and it looks like this could be the end of the road for the eldest son of Ragnar and Aslaug.
