Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo have publicly said that the fault lies on Star-Lord and his actions in the latest Avengers film.

Avengers: Infinity War is definitely an emotional rollercoaster. While it’s a superhero action film at its core, the story deals with a lot of topics and doesn’t leave moviegoers with a happy ending. Fans are not the only ones who have put the blame for an unhappy ending on Chris Pratt’s character Star-Lord.

In the scene in question, we see the Avengers successfully subduing Thanos. Mantis has used her mental powers to control Thanos, while Iron Man and Spider-Man are using their powers to rip the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos’ hand. Mantis ends up discovering Gamora’s fate, which sends Star-Lord into a rage and assaults Thanos, which leads to Mantis losing her control of Thanos.

During a live Q&A with Collider, the Russo brothers explained that the audience was supposed to realize that if Star-Lord did not do what he did, the Avengers would be getting the Infinity Gauntlet. The fault lies on him alone.

When I first watched Avengers: Infinity War, and we got to this scene, everyone saw what was coming and the audience was left in shock. Now we are left wondering what will happen in Avengers 4.

Now I don’t believe the Russo’s are truly blaming Star-Lord himself, they are blaming Star-Lord’s actions. Over the last 10 films, we have learned these characters are flawed and end up making flawed decisions, just ask Iron Man in Age of Ultron. Star-Lord was not looking at the bigger picture. He responded the way, someone would if they found out their loved one was dead.

Avengers director Joe Russo spoke to Collider and publicly blamed Star-Lord’s actions for the outcome of the film.

"No. That was the turning point of that scene. Again, these are flawed characters that make emotional choices, human choices. Had Quill not done that, the movie might have ended right there."

If these characters were not flawed, moviegoers and fans would not be drawn to them. The storyline is about flawed characters dealing with serious matters, and dealing with their traumatic events together.

Despite Star-Lord doing what he did, it’s probably not going to have a lasting impact on the future as well as the upcoming Avengers 4.

Avengers 4 will be in movie theaters in 2019.
