Game of Thrones Season 8 teaser trailer: What you missed
HBO recently released a teaser trailer for Game of Thrones season 8. While it doesn’t appear to give much away, there is plenty fuel for speculation.
To say anticipation is great for the final season of Game of Thrones would be like saying the Dothraki enjoy a good ride. Or most Westerosi wedding RSVPs should be graciously declined.
So when HBO dropped a teaser trailer the reactions were obviously more excited than Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) around wine and whores. While not much was revealed, there’s still plenty to discuss.
What does the teaser trailer mean?
First and foremost, let’s get to the teaser trailer that has literally made people worldwide worry about coming winter.
White mist spreads Southward from the wall, enveloping a map of Westeros at a terrifying rate. No wall means no real hindrance for the army of White Walkers marching South, gaining new troops with every encounter.

For those familiar with Westeros, the next part is poignant. A direwolf stands facing South, seemingly unaware, quickly overtaken by the ice. Could this indicate a Northerner massacre and an even more menacing undead army? Will any of the Starks survive!?
Perhaps more terrifying is the next ice victim. A dragon gets swallowed by the ice, and that could be a huge loss for Daenerys Targaryen. It could also mean the loss of a second dragon. Fear not, however, for a fire rages in Dorne. Maybe a few early losses cause the living to gather reinforcements in preparation for a surge northward?
The eventual clash yields a new world?
Next the ice blasts over water, which could very well be confused for the Riverlands or the Twins, if not for what happens next. A clash at the River Trident, where the red, green, and blue forks converge, appears to be where the final conflict will take place. Given the current ambiguous ownership and political allegiance after Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) butchered house Frey, it’s as suiting a battleground as any.
(Had to post it. So satisfying.)
Maybe the most revealing aspect is when the fire and ice collide. A new wall appears to crash upward as a result of the fire cooling rapidly. And a NEW wall emerges. It sure looks shiny and black, like obsidian. Also known as dragon glass. Maybe Cersei (Lena Headey) will pull one of her old tricks, introduce a large supply of wildfire to the new wall of dragon glass, and create a Whitewalker-decimating Claymore mine to save mankind? The key, of course, is “front toward enemy.”
What do you make of the new teaser trailer? Is it literal or will there be a different story told in the final Game of Thrones season? Leave a comment with your hopes for the final season.
