It’s been confirmed that Jeffery Dean Morgan will reprise his role of John Winchester in the 300th episode of CW’s Supernatural

This is not a drill. John Winchester is coming back to Supernatural at least one more time! Way back in 2005 when the series began, the only main characters were Sam, Dean and John Winchester. It was an explosive family dynamic that became the heart of the series, even after John died, his presence remained on the show for years.

John became a hunter after witnessing the unnatural death of his wife Mary. He raised his sons to live in a world of monsters and demons while searching for the thing that killed her.

Played by Jeffery Dean Morgan, he was killed off in the Season 2 premiere but returned for a brief cameo in the Season 2 finale in 2007. He hasn’t returned since. A younger version of him has appeared for multiple episodes, played by Matt Cohen, but it wasn’t the same without Morgan.

John was the first major character to die in the series and is ironically the only major character yet to be resurrected. Practically everyone comes back to life on Supernatural, even minor characters, but not John. He went over to AMC to terrorize The Walking Dead cast.

For a long time, John and Mary Winchester seemed to be off-limits. The only two people who would stay dead forever, until Mary was resurrected in the Season 11 finale.

Unlike her husband, Mary’s reception from fans has been mixed. Coming off as rather unsympathetic, her callous personality is a big contrast from John’s tortured soul. However, after she returned fans knew it was only a matter of time before John joined her, and it looks like that time is now.

During a Twitter Q&A in November, Morgan said that he’d loved to return to Supernatural when the time was right. Most thought he was teasing, but apparently, he wasn’t. Deadline reports that Morgan is indeed coming back to the show for it’s 300th episode on Feb. 7, 2019. The episode will be titled “Lebanon.” Lebanon is the name of the town Sam and Dean are currently living in, so the episode will probably involve a story about family or their history.

Apparently, the episode will feature a couple of notable characters from the past. Executive producer Andrew Dabb explains

"“We’re incredibly excited to have Jeffrey back for this milestone episode, and think fans will love what we have planned for his character… and a few other surprise guest stars.”"

Morgan’s current role as the famously unliked villain Negan on The Walking Dead might not last long. I actually have no idea because. I don’t watch The Walking Dead, but I know he’s been the antagonist for a long time now and is bound to die soon. Let’s hope this gives him an opening for a reoccurring role on Supernatural.

John needs to see how strong his sons have become, see their new family and that they have a permanent home. He needs to know that they saved the world. HE NEEDS TO KNOW!

Unfortunately, Morgan is only scheduled to appear in one episode. This could be a case of the show trying to keep spoilers from getting loose, or perhaps John will return only as a ghost or a memory. Mary hasn’t been in the series much since her return, perhaps she’ll die and join John in Heaven. Or the Winchesters will enter some kind of dream world where they’ll briefly get to reunite with John.

What will John think when he’s reunited with his wife he lost his mind over. The set up of the show had been John’s driven obsession to find Mary’s killer. What will he do when he sees her alive?
