On our 25 best Christmas movies countdown, we add a bit of spookiness to the list as we sit down to watch the escapades of Jack, Sally, Oogie Boogie, and Sandy Claws. At #10, it’s A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Christmas is fast approaching, so it’s easy for all of us to get swept up in the holiday cheer. Should you get bored, however, Hidden Remote has a nice change of pace for you to watch this holiday season on our countdown. Our #10 Christmas movie to watch this year is the Tim Burton classic, A Nightmare Before Christmas.

In the film, we meet the residents of Halloween Town (not to be confused with the Disney Original Movie Halloweentown) and their town leader Jack Skellington. After another year’s Halloween, the Pumpkin King reveals that he feels empty after performing the same routine of scaring folks year after year.

Jack wanders the nearby forest and comes upon a clearing surrounded by trees with portals to the realms for the other holidays. Of course, Jack goes through the one to Christmas town, where he discovers a winter wonderland that leaves him awestruck.

Feeling upset that such a wonderful holiday is monopolized by the people of Christmas town, Jack resolves to take over Christmas with the people of Halloween town so they can experience the holiday cheer that year. Although the rest of the townspeople are unable to even comprehend what Christmas is, they agree to help Jack do the holiday in a Halloween town way.

This is opposed by Sally, a rag-doll scarecrow that is in love with Jack, who believes Halloween folk cannot ever do Christmas successfully. However, Jack and the town press on, creating their own presents, ghostly reindeer (including a red-nosed ghost similar to Rudolph), and decorations.

Jack also instructs some local kids to abduct Santa Claus (who they know as Sandy Claws) so that their Halloween version of Christmas can go off without interruption. However, the boys take Santa to the boogeyman, Oogie Boogie, for torture. Oogie also captures Sally when she tries to rescue Santa.

On the night of Christmas, Jack finds that his spooky gifts are causing mass panic. He realizes that people aren’t ready to be scared on this holiday, but that he should redouble his efforts to make Halloween better. With this newfound optimism, Jack sets out to right the wrongs before Christmas is ruined.

He returns to Halloween town, defeats Oogie, and frees Santa so that he can bring Christmas cheer to the world. As a token of appreciation, Santa brings the town their first snowfall to celebrate the holiday.

The Nightmare Before Christmas was praised by critics when it was released in 1993. The movie currently holds a 95% Certified Fresh approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 91% audience approval. The film grossed $50 million domestically during its original theatrical run.
