Bad news for Z Nation fans. The series has been canceled at SYFY after five seasons. Could Netflix save the day and pick up the series?

The Season 5 finale of Z Nation has not yet aired but you have to wonder if the series knew that their days were numbered. Aptly named, “The End of Everything,” the Season 5 finale will air on Dec. 28, and will also act as the series finale for the long-running action-comedy series following the cancellation announcing by the network. But could someone like Netflix swoop in and save the day?

With the streaming giants reportedly planning a Z Nation prequel series, it is more than possible that the network will come in and save the series. The prequel series, named, Black Summer, is set four months into the apocalypse, during the low point of the apocalypse where 95% of the population succumbed to the zombie virus and died during one summer.

More from Renewals and Cancellations

Z Nation cast and EPs attend Comic-Con 2018, where they discussed the prequel series coming to Netflix. During the panel, they gave an insight into what Black Summer would be like for Z Nation to expect, why they decided to make a prequel, along with details like the plot.

However what is not known is when the prequel series will be ready to launch on Netflix. Like any prequel, a lot of details need to be worked out so it will probably not be coming out anytime soon.

So, in between then and now, Netflix could look at picking up Z Nation. They clearly see this as a worthwhile show, with an avid fanbase, otherwise, they would not be looking at creating the prequel.

If Netflix were not creating Balck Summer then I would say no. There is little chance they would save the SYFY series. Z Nation has been going on too long now for them to consider saving. But, this is an exceptional case. It’s a great opportunity for the streaming network to add another show to their already established lineup and get fans ready for Black Summer.
