Shadowhunters fans unite to create polaroid teaser campaign for season 3B
We’re continuously impressed by the #ShadowFam! Three Shadowhunters update accounts united to release their own season 3B teaser campaign, and they even got the cast, creative team, and crew on board!
It’s been a full year since Shadowhunters season 3B began filming and teasers from set started collecting on social media. Now that the final season premiere is (finally) almost here, it feels a bit surreal to think that the series is coming to a close.
Over the past year, we’ve seen dozens of set photos and boomerangs, hundreds of teaser tweets, hours of convention panel videos, pages and pages of interview content, livestream Q&A sessions, some prop spoilers (but we won’t go into all of that drama here), and a short preview trailer, but most of the news surrounding the new episodes comes directly from the passionate cast and creative team — and it’s all energized by the ShadowFam.
Now, to keep that energy going, three of the largest Shadowhunters update accounts have taken the show’s promotion into their own hands, joining forces to bring fans exclusive teasers for season 3B. No one knows the fans better than the social media accounts who continuously bring news about the series to its international audience, and with a combined following of 60,000 on Twitter alone, Bane&Lewis, Basic Shadowhunters Stuff, and ShumDario News recruited members of the cast and crew to help them create some extra excitement.
What is the Shadowhunters Polaroid Project?
At conventions in London and Paris this past summer, Shadowhunters cast members in attendance were asked by representatives from these update accounts if they wanted to participate in a surprise teaser campaign for fans, and it’s no surprise to us that the cast said yes. The idea was simple: each cast member was given an index card and wrote a short teaser about their character’s storyline. They then took a polaroid photo holding up the card.
In the first post, Katherine McNamara teased that we can expect Clary’s journey in season 3B to be “bloody, transformative, and shattering.” And when “bloody” is the first descriptive word you use about a storyline, our minds start racing.
We hear the teasers range from silly, to spoilery, to bizarre, and after just the first post going up yesterday, we can tell fans are already very excited to see what the Shadowhunters cast had to say. You can expect to see a new polaroid photo ready to be “unlocked” every Monday until the premiere.

One of the organizers behind the polaroid project reiterated that the ShadowFam community was their motivation to coordinate and collaborate on the posts, explaining that the polaroids felt “more personal” than just sharing a transcription on social media.
“The fandom has an amazing relationship with that cast, so we wanted them to feel it through that project,” they said. “At that time, no one knew when the show was coming back. [We wanted] to give fans as much new content as possible to stay excited until the premiere.”
In addition to the polaroids, fans can also expect to see other posts sharing behind-the-scenes content from some of the show’s writers and crew members prior to Shadowhunters season 3B. We’ve also heard rumors that fan-organized billboards could be coming to Los Angeles very soon.
