Which Batwoman comics should the CW show pull from?
The CW has a Batwoman pilot in the works after her recent appearance in the Arrowverse. Here are the comics we’d like to see the show pull stories from.
Ruby Rose’s Batwoman might not have had a lot to do in her big premiere, but the “Elseworlds” crossover set the tone for Gotham. Bruce is gone, which gives the CW the perfect excuse to focus on some Kate Kane driven stories from the comics. Now that Batwoman has a pilot, here are the comics the show should pull from.

Greg Rucka’s run with the character is one worth reading. Elegy in particular finds Kate Kane diving into some of the Gotham villains in a new way. She’s up against a woman named Alice, who looks like she came right out of the Mad Hatter’s playbook.
Elegy collects Detective Comics #854-860, so even though the story was featured in a classic Batman title, it brings a great focus to Batwoman. She’s a force to be reckoned with and Alice puts her to the test.
Batwoman: Rebirth
The recent relaunch from DC brought a lot of great new stories. Batwoman by Marguerite Bennett and James Tynion IV is one of those titles that caught my eye. This time, it is with her own solo series and it shows a more diverse side to the comics. She’s a female lead who can do pretty much anything Batman can and does so with a little more style.
While she has her own series, she still remains part of the Bat family in Detective Comics. While that title is a good one to check out, too, it just doesn’t have the same focus on her as the solo series. Batwoman is a complex character and this run shows that along with all of the nuances that come with being complex.
New 52 Batwoman
The New 52 launch gave Batwoman a solo series as well. I can’t speak to this once quite as much since I’m only familiar with it in passing. With it being one of two solo titles for the character, though, there are going to be aspects worth pulling from it.
Batwoman ran for 40 issues, which comes out to six different trades. That’s a good amount of story to pull from and I’ll be diving in before the pilot comes to fruition. She might not have the longest history, but Kate Kane has still been around long enough to give fans a reason to be excited.
We won’t know the status of the show until after the pilot is done and if CW choses to pick it up for a full season. However, I’m hoping they do because I think this character can inject something new into the Arrowverse. Plus, they’ve been teasing Gotham for so long, it would be a bummer to see it fizzle out.
