President Trump’s primetime address messed up network TV considerably. At one point, TV shows weren’t meant to air and then some aired late. What was on and what wasn’t on January 8?

Did anyone else get annoyed that network TV was messed around so much? Because of President Trump’s address, CBS chose not to air its originally planned programming, preempting it for next week. TV Guide reported that all TV shows wouldn’t air at one point and then the new episodes aired but late. What exactly aired on January 8 and what didn’t?

Quite honestly, CBS had the best idea. Airing the president’s address at 9 p.m. ET, the network chose to preempt its originally planned programming. FBI and NCIS: New Orleans will air their winter premieres on Jan. 15 instead, but NCIS did air in its usual slot at 8 p.m.

The rest of the networks were a mess. All decided in the end to air their new episodes but ran them late. The Giftedblack-ishSplitting Up Together, and Ellen’s Game of Games were originally going to be held off for a week, according to TV Guide, but the Twitter feeds told us something different.

The shows were only meant to run 10 minutes late. Because President Trump’s address ran a little late and then the Democrats got a rebuttal, the shows were more than 20 minutes late. Ratings will most definitely be a mess and we should probably expect the networks to air reruns over the weekend to give people a chance to catch up. Those who had DVRs set would likely have missed parts of their favorite episodes.

Honestly, NBC was the biggest mess. They jumped into Ellen’s Game of Games Season 2 premiere 20 minutes late! It would have been best to just hold off the episode altogether. Or, maybe, just not given Trump airtime.

While CBS preempted everything from 9 p.m., TV shows planned for other networks aired as expected. New episodes of The Giftedblack-ishSplitting Up Together, and Ellen’s Game of Games did end up airing (and aired as normal for the West Coasters). You can catch them through the websites or through Hulu on playback. The episodes are also available to purchase on Amazon.

The Rookie and New Amsterdam aired in their usual timeslots as expected.
