Thursday night TV ratings: Move proves successful for A Million Little Things
While there were certainly many people wondering where Station 19 was last night, the Thursday night move for A Million Little Things proved successful. Here’s a look at the January 17 TV ratings. Who won the night?
Thursday night TV was back in full force. Supernatural and Grey’s Anatomy returned to their 8 p.m. slots, A Million Little Things began its new time slot, and Fam aired its second episode of the series. How did the shows do in the Thursday night TV ratings for January 17?
A Million Little Things certainly benefited from the move to the post-Grey’s Anatomy timeslot, seeing its highest-ever ratings in terms of the total ratings. TVLine reports that the show returned with a higher rating than Station 19‘s average ratings for fall 2018, which originally held the 9 p.m. timeslot.

In fact, A Million Little Things was second to CBS in the second hour of the night, placing first in the second half-hour of that block in the demo, as Fam saw a downward tick from its series premiere.
A downward tick between pilot and second episode isn’t uncommon, especially when other shows are premiering during that second week. It’s hard to make a determination over the fate of the Nina Dobrev comedy, as a few more episodes need to air to see if the TV ratings can steady.
Meanwhile, CBS won with The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Grey’s Anatomy‘s return placed ABC second and Supernatural returned in an unsurprisingly last place. The CW is usually in last, but the show returned with mixed ratings — up in the total audience but down in the demo. The spoilery synopsis for next week’s episode certainly wouldn’t have helped that!
How to Get Away with Murder returned down from its fall finale, but sat in second for the night. Law & Order: SVU brought in the highest numbers in the 10 p.m. slot, although CBS did air a rerun of S.W.A.T.
