The Conners Season 1 finale ends with a bang: 3 big things that happened

The cast and crew of The Conners have finished with a bang. A few big things happened, and with how the finale ended, we expect ABC to order a second season.

Warning: Major spoilers below if you missed the big finale of The Conners.

The Conners season one finale, “We Continue To Truck,” ended with a bang. Drama unfolded, we need questions answered, and what happened to poor Aunt Jackie and Aunt Becky? Let’s break down the finale.

Peter and Jackie

Well, the ship has now sunk. Peter and Jackie have broken up. Dan clashed with Peter in Season 1, Episode 7, “Hold the Salt,” as he realized Peter ended up using Jackie for finance and took advantage of her. Peter and Jackie opened a bank account together, but he didn’t contribute much towards the account.

Jackie was the giver in the relationship and Peter was the taker. It turned out Dan was right about all of this. The relationship ended when Jackie saw a breast bag in Peter’s apartment.  We find out Peter was cheating on Jackie and he was taking advantage of her money.

I’m glad he’s gone now as I’ve never liked him. No harm feelings to Matthew Broderick. Laurie Metcalf gave a brilliant performance of breaking down after she found out Peter was cheating on her. She went to work drunk and ended up breaking down before hugging Dan at work.

As Jackie was drunk, she thought the Chinese restaurant was the Lunch Box restaurant where she and Roseanne used to work in the original series. She hasn’t completely dealt with her sister, Roseanne’s, death.

As executive producer Sara Gilbert told TV Line:

"“Oh, yes. This is the symbolic place where they worked together and where they were happy.” It had an emotional punch for everybody [because it served as a reminder] of what’s been lost."

Emilio and Becky

Can I say that I just love these two together? Emilio has always been there for Becky. She decided to give him a chance after not wanting to see him as it seemed through the episodes she thought he was not a good man. He went out of his way to provide he was there for her in the season finale by going with Dan to purchase baby things at the mall and gave it to Becky. He truly cares about her and is dedicated to making her happy and to make sure the baby is okay.

The happiness for them quickly changed. Unfortunately, there was a big ICE raid downtown, and they raided the restaurants and Emilio was probably working there. The next thing we know, Emilio left Becky a voicemail which she started listening to in front of the family in the kitchen, confirming that he was being deported to Mexico as he’s illegal.

Of course, at this point, Becky starts crying as they both started getting closer together. You have to feel so sorry for both Emilio and Becky for what’s going on. I’m hoping Dan and the family could do something to bring Emilio and Becky back together.

A love triangle between Darlene, David and Ben

What an intriguing way to end this season. Bringing Darlene, David and Ben into a love triangle. David called it quits with Blue as she wanted kids and he didn’t want any. David went to Darlene’s home, which surprised me to see him there when Darlene opened the door and he confronted her about his breakup with Blue.

However, it got worse. David wants Darlene back and told her that he loves her. How was this worse? As we all know, Darlene was getting ready to move in with Ben in Chicago along with her kids, Mark and Harris, so this just threw a big curveball at her.

Ben wanted Darlene and her kids to move in with him, but for now, that has to stay put. She will be staying in Lanford. Darlene told Ben that her father is alone and is too vulnerable so she cannot leave him alone. But the real truth is: David is coming back into her life.

Does this mean that Johnny Galecki will be a regular or be in more episodes? We’ll have to wait and find out. Oh, and Harris wrote an article in school about how bad it was to live in Lanford, and she said she burned some bridges.

If ABC orders a second season, I can’t wait to see how all of this unfolds. I mean, they should order one, considering The Conners is the #1 show on the network.
