Takeaways from Erick McCormack’s video announcement that Travelers is finished should only serve as a wakeup call to get louder. Here’s why…

The fan-beloved Erick McCormack, who plays Traveler 3468 on Netflix’s Travelers, recently shared a video seemingly to officially announce the cancellation of the show. And while it could be taken as the swan song for Travelers, there are clearly some messages in the video that indicate all hope is not lost.

For the sake of time, I’m not going to transcribe the whole announcement — you can see it below — but part of it makes me think this isn’t over. Here’s my take on it.

Watch the video first, if you haven’t already:

Thirteen seconds in, McCormack says, in a kind tone, “A lot of you have been asking about the possibility of a season 4. But many of you have been saying, ‘look if this is it, what a moving, and surprising, and profound ending it is.’ Well, I’m afraid it is. Who knows what the future holds, but Travelers program 1, as we call it, is complete.”

Now, he’s clearly a nice guy, and he also has to watch his words for PR purposes, so let me do some translating from my perspective:

1. McCormack: “A lot of you have been asking about the possibility of a season 4, but many of you have been saying, ‘look if this is it, what a moving and surprising and profound ending it is.'”

Possible translation: Thank you so much for the noise thus far — we need a little more support to get this Travelers thing renewed.

2. McCormack: “Who knows what the future holds, but Travelers program 1, as we call it, is complete.”

Translation: A future for the show is still a possibility.

TV Line confirms this announcement means Netflix has decided to cancel Travelers. But, you know what? People change their minds. We’ve this happen with other shows before. Also, a contract could likely be worked out with another streaming service or network to save the show.

More from Netflix

Now, before I get ahead of myself, we need to realize that the reality of the situation is that Netflix makes these decisions based on views. The views likely weren’t there for them to feel justified in renewing the show. But it seems far too soon for them to call it quits right now.

This is why the next step begins. I’m not buying this as the end.

In an article for Commyounicate, I outlined four simple ways to get momentum going to save Season 4, including going to Netflix and requesting its renewal via this request form, which I still recommend.

Also, this may seem like a silly suggestion, but if you’re a fan of the show and simply haven’t had the time to watch Travelers Season 3 since its December 14, 2018, release, due to the busy holiday season, watch it now so Netflix knows the true numbers of fans out there.

Who knows, maybe that could make a dent.

However, it’s likely we’re going to need a different streamer to save the show. So from now on, I would suggest using the following hashtags:  #RenewTravelers  #SaveTravelers

Let’s not give up on this just yet. It was only on January 5 that Erick McCormack posted this:

Finally, just in general, from the social media engagement stars and creators of the show have shown, it genuinely seems they are down for a Travelers season 4.

dark. Next. How long until Netflix only has original programming?

So, for now, the mission comes first. Let’s get Travelers some more social media attention!
