Shadowhunters Season 3B: Malec dancing confirmed to happen TWICE

The Shadowhunters Season 3B trailer showed us a glimpse into a Malec dancing scene that caused international swooning, but by the Angel, showrunners have now confirmed (at least) TWO Malec dances.

In the Shadowhunters Season 3B trailer released last week, fans were over-the-moon to see a Malec dancing scene in Magnus’ penthouse. It prompted questions about why the couple was dancing.

Could it be a dare? A rehearsal for another dance later in the season? Or was it just a spontaneous, domestic moment? (To be clear, we’re okay with any and all potential reasons).

During the Freeform TCA event, TVGuide had the opportunity to ask Harry Shum Jr. a bit more about what the dance rehearsal process off-camera with Matthew Daddario was like, and his behind-the-scenes dance coach commentary prompted all kinds of fandom-ing energy.

Harry Shum Jr. explained that though Daddario was panicked at first about having to dance on camera, he was able to coach him by treating the choreography like it was a sport. “When you did that he was like great! He picked everything up really quickly,” Shum Jr. shared. “I kind of said, ‘You have to memorize it, it’s muscle memory,’ and then when he factored that into it, it just became something that was — he took it on.”

After the event ended, however, showrunners Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer both took to Twitter to share more information about Malec dancing in Shadowhunters Season 3B with fans. We learned that the dance scene in Magnus’ penthouse from the trailer will occur in Season 3, Episode 16, and Slavkin even teased that Daddario “crushes the dance in ways you can only imagine and keeps up with Harry every step of the way.”
