Tuesday TV ratings: Slow night with State of the Union [Feb. 5]

Trump’s State of the Union address took up two hours on the Big 4 networks. Here’s how the Tuesday TV ratings held up.

The Tuesday TV ratings are in and they’re not great. That’s not overly surprising, though. Trump’s State of the Union took up a two-hour block on Feb. 5 and all Big 4 networks chose to preempt programming because of it. However, The CW did air new episodes of both its Tuesday shows with mixed results.

The Flash and Roswell, New Mexico were part of a handful of shows that aired new. Both saw small dips in their total audiences but the demo ratings were up. Roswell performed the best with the State of the Union address. While it didn’t take over the other network, it saw a 20% increase in the demo to 0.4. This is a series best, although the total audience was down to 1.121 million, marking a series low.

Ellen Game of Games saw a big decrease in both demo and audience. The demo was the largest with an 18% dip to 1.4. This was still the best rating of the night, although that may not mean much when FOX and CBS both opted for reruns, which naturally bring in lower Tuesday TV ratings.

ABC was the only other network to have new episodes of its 8 p.m.-9 p.m. lineup. American Housewife faired okay in the total audience with a 1% increase (although second place behind CBS’ rerun of The World’s Best) and The Kids Are Alright saw a decrease in both demographics.

When it came to the State of the Union, all Big 4 networks aired it. NBC’s coverage pulled in the best ratings, with 6.23 million people watching and a 1.5 in the demo. CBS came in second in the audience with 5.63 million but its 1.0 in the demo was behind FOX’s 1.1. ABC may have been in fourth with the demo but it was third in the overall audience.
