Supernatural Episode 300 had callbacks, Easter eggs, and John Winchester to make for an amazing, emotional hour.

Fourteen years and 300 episodes later, Supernatural managed to put together an episode that pulled at every emotion that I’ve felt watching this series. Love. Compassion. Heartbreak. Even chills. That hour of television was one of the best Supernatural has ever aired.

Bringing John Winchester back was a wish many fans had. Jeffrey Dean Morgan quickly became a fan favorite and for more than 10 years, many of us wondered what would happen if he came back.

While one episode certainly felt like too short of a time for the Winchester family reunion, it was perfectly executed and filled with everything I have ever wanted to see. From John and Mary’s reunion to John and Sam’s reconciliation, it seemed the writers gave us everything we looked for to wrap up storylines that involved John Winchester.

Supernatural Episode 300 started on a high note too. The brothers managed to do what they do best, track down evildoers and avenge one of their friends. Dean putting the charm on the postal worker was hilarious because it was reminiscent of Sam pulling the same move on an older woman from years before.

Zachariah’s appearance was a bit short-lived, but it was a nice reminder of the kind of foe he was for the Winchesters during his heyday. The brothers also haven’t had to use the blood trick to expel angels in quite some time since there are barely any angels left.

There were so many callbacks and Easter eggs – like Dean’s duck face mug shot from Season 2 – that made for a stellar episode. It was a way to do a “flashback” episode without having to use old footage. Instead, the writers relied on the fans’ memories to drive them through the episode.

My favorite moment of the whole episode though was when the whole family got to sit down and have a family dinner they never had before. As adults, Sam and Dean didn’t have their mother. While Mary has been back, John was dead.

Supernatural’s 300th episode was fantastic and I’ll be sure to watch it again very soon.
