Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and more are heading to Warner Bros. streaming service

Popular hit shows such as Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and Riverdale are leaving Netflix soon for Warner Bros. new streaming service called WarnerMedia.
Well, this certainly isn’t great to hear. First, we had Netflix and Hulu and Amazon Prime. Now, after streaming companies have had a lot of success, cable networks are following their footsteps and creating their own services. One of these networks is Warner Bros. with WarnerMedia.
TV Line reported on Monday, Chief creative officer Kevin Reilly told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour “You can expect the crown jewels of Warner,” and it will ultimately end up on the new service.
What does this mean? It means that you can say bye to any of your favorite Warner Bros. owned property shows that are currently streaming on Netflix. Those shows will be heading to Warner Bros. new service that the studio is launching, WarnerMedia. A beta version will be launched in Q4 of this year.
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
The Warner Bros. shows that are currently on Netflix include Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Riverdale, The Flash, and Legacies. Once those shows leave, it’s going to take a hit on the streaming giant.
Netflix will need to become more creative in creating shows that will bring in lots of viewers, especially as Disney+ is coming out, and all the Marvel shows are going on that platform.
The sad news is, the shows will only be available exclusively on WarnerMedia. More streaming services are on the way and I am not a fan of this. At this rate, we may have to go back to cable as that may eventually be cheaper than us having to subscribe to every streaming platform.
Kevin said the below to reporters, per Deadline:
"“I think you can expect the crown jewels of Warner will ultimately end up on our new service. Pulling it away (from Netflix)? It’s certainly something we’re willing to do,” said Reilly at TCA.“I think for the most part, sharing destination assets like that is not a good model to share — my belief is that they should be exclusive,” he added.Reilly today specified that “The CW with Netflix is not an output deal” and that “there’s a new offering of content coming up in the spring. I think you can anticipate we’re to be looking at that; we’re very interested in putting that (the CW series) on our platform.”"
Also, if you haven’t heard, Netflix paid a whopping $100 million just to keep Friends on its streaming platform until 2020. It shows how popular Friends have become, especially when you have the show right there in front of you playing non-stop, it brings in more fans.
