Set It Up

What happens when two New York City assistants reach their breaking point and would do anything to get their bosses off their backs? They decide to play matchmaker and orchestrate a relationship in the Netflix original film, Set It Up.

Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell star as Harper Moore and Charlie Young, two overworked assistants who attempt to set up their demanding bosses, Kirsten Stevens (Lucy Liu) and Rick Otis (Taye Diggs), in New York City. Although it had a familiar rom-com storyline, Set It Up injected a breath of fresh air into the genre thanks to the funny script and charming performances from both Deutch and Powell.

Writing your thoughts down on paper is a good way to vent. However, when you write private love letters that are accidentally sent to your crushes, then it’s crisis mode. In Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, high school junior Lara Jean (Lana Condor) writes private letters to boys she has loved, but they are accidentally sent to her former crushes.

When Peter (Noah Centineo) confronts Lara Jean, they decided to fake date each other in order to make their crushes jealous. Based on Jenny Han’s novel, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is an entertaining high school romance that is relatable on many levels.

Silver Linings Playbook

Football and dancing make for an entertaining combination in Silver Linings Playbook. Bradley Cooper stars as Pat Solitano, a former teacher and recent divorcee who recently spent time in a mental institution for bipolar disorder. Determined to win his ex-wife back, Pat agrees to help Tiffany Maxwell (Jennifer Lawrence) in a dance competition in exchange for advice on how to win his wife back.

As the two grow closer together, Pat must learn to cope with his mental problems as well as his family problems with his father, Pat Sr. (Robert De Niro), who arguably loves the Philadelphia Eagles more than his own son. Silver Linings Playbook was nominated for eight Oscars with Lawrence winning for Best Actress.

Love, Rosie

There’s nothing wrong with a predictable story. Best friends of the opposite sex who grow close together and have to decide if it’s true love is a cliché, but in Love, Rosie, it works thanks to the two leads, Lily Collins and Sam Claffin.

Collins and Claffin star as Rosie and Alex, two best friends who watch each other make questionable decisions in their love life as they grow older. Will they end up together? Tune in!

The Kissing Booth

One of the most watched films on Netflix in 2018 was The Kissing Booth. Joey King and Lee Flynn star as Elle Evans and Lee Flynn, two best friends who were born on the same day at the same time in the same hospital. In order to keep their special friendship, the two agree to specific rules that include not being allowed to date relatives such as Lee’s brother, Noah (Jacob Elordi).

When Elle and Noah accidentally share a kiss at a kissing booth, things become complicated as Elle begins to fall for Noah, which goes against her rules with Lee. Can Elle keep a secret from his best friend even if it goes against their rules?
