15. George/Izzie/Callie

When it happened: After George’s dad died, he entered a crazy romance with Callie and they got married in Vegas. Immediately after, Izzie started having feelings for George and couldn’t keep them to herself.

Who was caught in the middle? George, sort of.

What it led to: This arguably led to Callie’s realization of what she wanted. Because of this, he was able to find out who she was as a person and started a fling with Erica Hahn. Without George’s infidelity, Callie may never have accepted her interest in women.

Why it’s one of the best It’s hard to say that this one was great because it was a weird triangle. I never really saw anything from Izzie for George until he was happy with Callie. And it’s that fact that makes this so great. There was a lesson for all to learn.

George realized that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Izzie realized that she wanted something because she couldn’t have it. Callie learned to stand up for herself and started the journey to figure out her sexuality.

We also got to see that Callie was the one that came out on top of this. While her marriage was over and she felt like a failure, she also got to gain inner strength. Izzie and George never did work out and neither have really found happiness the way that Callie managed.
