A number of shows returned after time off on Feb. 17. However, the returns weren’t great. Here’s a look at the Sunday TV ratings.

After the Super Bowl and Grammys over the last two weeks, a number of shows returned from hiatuses. For some, that hiatus was longer than many fans wanted and the returning viewing figures show. Some fans may not have even got the memo that their favorite shows were back. Here’s a look at the Sunday TV ratings for Feb. 17.

All but FOX returned from weeks off. CBS finally brought God Friended Me back after a four-week hiatus and The CW returned with Supergirl and Charmed after two weeks off. All three shows returned with dips — some much bigger than the networks would have wanted. The only good thing is that all shows have been renewed for the next seasons.

God Friended Me and Charmed both returned with 20+% drops in their demos. Both the demo and audience for both shows were at series-lows, suggesting that maybe fans didn’t realize their shows were back. Things won’t be great for God Friended Me as its taking a week off next week for the Oscars.

Charmed and Supergirl will get all-new episodes. While there’s a chance to see the ratings tick up, the Millennial network is going up against ABC hosting the Oscars, so I think the ratings will drop for both again.

It certainly shows that fans don’t always know when their shows return from long breaks. FOX saw an uptick in all three Sunday comedies, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy. Fans need consistency with their shows to keep the audience tuning in otherwise people are just going to wait to see if shows are available to stream later.

I’ll say that I see a common theme with my live stream pieces. While they do get a boost on the night of a new episode, it’s the day after that many people start looking for details. It looks like many want to know if there was a new episode the day after because they don’t watch live anymore.
