3 reasons Manifest needs a second season right now
The Manifest season finale aired on Feb. 18 and it made one thing clear: Manifest needs a second season. Here are three reasons the renewal needs to happen right now.
Manifest wrapped its first season with plenty of twists and turns. Just as it looked like we were getting some answers, it threw us another curveball. The Griffin problem was wrapped up quickly but not in a positive way for our 828 passengers.
One thing the season finale told us was that Manifest needs a second season. Don’t believe me just yet? Here are three reasons that renewal is needed right this very minute.
3. There are so many questions left unanswered

One thing I hate about cliffhangers is never knowing if they’ll be resolved. Too many shows wrap their first seasons with major questions and there’s never any idea of whether those questions will be answered. Any show that does their finale without a renewal is leaving too much up to chance.
NBC has a bad habit of canceling shows on cliffhangers. Look at Timeless (okay, it got a two-hour movie but still…) and Reverie. Now I’m worried that Manifest will be the same.
That season finale opened up a world of questions that I’ll go into later. It needs at least a 10-episode second season to give us answers. We became invested and now we need the answers, right?
2. It includes good writing
There are few shows that can do a love triangle that I can get behind but Manifest managed it. Shows with one big question can often drag but this isn’t a show that’s got there yet. In fact, it’s a show that has added more big questions throughout the season.
While we still don’t have the answer as to why the 828 passengers were the ones to go through time, we’ve been given another major question for the second season to answer. This is exactly how a show can keep its plot moving forward, preventing the big questions from becoming stale.
Now, we could get an answer to some big questions early in the second season but still have material for the future. Good writing shouldn’t go to waste.
1. The ratings are still good for NBC
Let’s be honest. It’s mostly about the live ratings. The networks need to know that people are watching to charge higher amounts for advertisers.
Mondays at 10/9c haven’t been great for NBC in recent years. Manifest immediately proved to be something different and good for the network. It wasn’t surprising that the show got an extra three episodes ordered. But the second season would be about the continued ratings.
They’ve been good. While the show isn’t the highest rated on the network, it’s a strong one overall. It’s the best rated out of the freshman shows. With that in mind, this is a show that should be renewed because New Amsterdam has been.
Despite the finale dropping, the average demo is the same as Chicago Fire and Chicago Med and above Chicago PD. Considering these three shows are likely safe, the freshman mystery needs to be renewed with them. Even the overall audience figures are in the top five, so it’s a good show for the network.
