As the Oscars loom, another set of awards are announcing their winners: the Hidden Remote Film Awards, voted for by the fine folks here at Hidden Remote!

The Oscars are almost here and the anticipation is at an all-time high. Passionate fans are rallying behind their preferred films to win big at the ceremony. The hardcore film buffs are launching their own personal campaigns for the likes of Roma, The Favourite, and BlacKkKlansman, while mainstream film lovers are beating the drum for films such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, Black Panther, and A Star Is Born to win Best Picture. Vice is also nominated.

While all of that chaos ensues, the folks here at Hidden Remote have been busy voting for another set of awards to be announced. These awards are the ones for the inaugural Hidden Remote Film Awards, which are now ready to be announced after weeks of voting within the staff and writers here at the site!

The Hidden Remote Film Awards were created this year to provide something of an alternative to this year’s divisive nominees for Best Picture, among five of the other major categories. 2018 was the year that saw many films, directed by men and women, strive for greatness, only to get completely ignored at the official ceremony in favor of more mainstream and safer Oscar films.

This, among the many controversies that the Academy has faced this year, has led to fans being dissatisfied with how the ceremony is shaping up to be.

More from Awards

Luckily, even if only temporary, the Hidden Remote Film Awards are much smaller and more intimate, being voted on by the contributors and staff here at the site to express the film voices of writers who have gone out of their way to check out as many films as possible in the year. Oscar voters often don’t see every film nominated and don’t even bother to, but the people here on the site make it their mission to do so and provide informed opinions on the best in film of 2018.

With that out of the way, we can move on to announcing this year’s official winners for the Hidden Remote Film Awards and bet that this will be a continued tradition for the following years. Hopefully the readers can find some solace in knowing that a film that you might’ve loved has been recognized by at least this publication! This was a lot of fun and hopefully we can make the experience more interactive in the coming years!
