On Tonight: Better Things Season 3 premieres

After a long hiatus, Pamela Adlon returns for a third season of Better Things that promises to be just as fresh, funny, and poignant as we remember it.

Its been a while since we’ve seen a new episode of FX’s excellent comedy about motherhood starring Pamela Adlon. Why? Because of everything that happened with Louis C.K., who, at one point, served as a co-creator of Better Things with Adlon and even wrote several episodes. Luckily, C.K. isn’t returning for a third season and based on some of the reviews I’ve seen, the show is doing just fine without him.

If you’re new to the world of Better Things, the story can be summed  up pretty simply. Adlon stars as Sam, a single mother trying to raise her three daughters, Max (Mikey Madison), Frankie (Hannah Allgood), and Duke (Olivia Edwards).

The show is often unorthodox. One of the most memorable scenes of last season came from the season finale when Sam and her girls did a song-and-dance number to “Tilted” by Christine and the Queens to celebrate Max’s graduation.

The details about this season have been minimal, which is the typical style of Better Things. Most episode synopses are a mere sentence in length. For instance, the official season premiere is simply, “Sam and Max go on a trip.” (Based on the episode title, “Chicago”, I’m assuming they’re going to Chicago.) But the trailer for the season does give us a bit more to go on.

Apparently, Duke is going to be dealing with mean girls from school, Max is struggling with birth control, and Frankie is having “cruelty issues”… whatever that means! Sam spills her guts to her doctor in the video. All I know is I’m super excited to have this family back on my television screen.
