Have a nostalgic Netflix weekend with these 5 movies streaming Friday
By Sandy C.
Cancel all weekend plans! Beginning Friday, it’s Nostalgic Netflix Weekend! Here are 5 movies from years ago that are sure to give you all the right nostalgic feels.
Typically, our Netflix weekend recommendations consist of new debuts coming to the streaming service. More often than not, these are Netflix Originals. After all, it’s all about keeping up with what’s new and trending, right? However, this weekend it’s a bit different.
For starters, nothing major is coming to the streaming giant. Sure, Larva Island Season 2 and River’s Edge are among the few, but they simply don’t call our interest. Instead, we couldn’t help but notice there are a ton of old school movies headed our way Friday, March 1.
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
The Hurt Locker, Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks, Apollo 13, you name it! If you want to feel old, this weekend should do it! In all seriousness, though, if you were ever thinking of taking a weekend to watch old favorites, now’s your chance — and for free! Well, if you’re a Netflix subscriber.

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
Ah, remember the days back when Michael Cera was king of romcoms? So charming, so cute, so awkward! Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist is still at the top of the list of favorite movies for many fans. It also stars Alexis Dziena, Kat Dennings and Ari Graynor. The movie premiered in theaters on Oct. 3, 2008, making it a little over 10-years-old.
Stuart Little
Say whatever you want, Stuart Little is a classic and, if you ask me, was ahead of its time! The movie premiered back in Dec. 5, 1999! It’s difficult to believe it’s been two decades since. Stuart Little stars Hugh Laurie, Geena Davis, Jonathan Lipnicki and Michael J. Fox.
The Notebook
The tears, the chills, the feels, the PAIN! The Notebook is arguably the most romantic movie of all time while also being the most heartbreaking. Some Netflix subscribers, who were able to stream the movie early, claim the ending featured on Netflix is different from the original movie. Have you had this issue?
The Notebook stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, the movie premiered on June 25, 2000. Does Gosling not age?
Wet Hot American Summer
Who hasn’t seen this classic comedy? The way Wet Hot American Summer does this genre has yet to be done again, well, unless you include the Netflix Original Ten Years Later. The movies stars Michael Showalter, Paul Rudd (another actor who doesn’t age), Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Bradley Cooper, and others. It premiered July 27, 2001.
Winter’s Bone
I don’t know about you, but watching one of Jennifer Lawrence’s first big roles is a sweet way to spend the weekend after all of the above nostalgic features! Winter’s Bone premiered on June 11, 2010. It also stars Garret Dillahunt.
