Thanks to the company chief of Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum,  fans have learned Scream 5 may be coming to the big screen soon as well as other chapters in the franchise.

I am such a big fan of the Scream movie series. The screenwriter for all the Scream movies, Kevin Williamson, returned to write a new trilogy. That made me so excited. Unfortunately, Kevin and the Weinstein Company fought over the script, so Kevin ended up leaving. The Weinstein’s brought in Ehren Kruger to rewrite the script. Now, we learned fans may see a Scream 5 happen soon, thanks to the company chief of Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum.

Scream 4 (2011) ended up tanking ($40 million production budget, grossed $38m domestically and $97 million worldwide) due to lack of TV advertisements. This is probably why we have never received the new trilogy that Kevin planned. However, things may actually be changing soon.

The company chief of Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum, spoke with CinemaBlend about wanting to continue more Scream movies:

"Blum confirmed that there have been some talks about those particular franchises, and while nothing is currently in active development, it is a road that he is interested in traveling:Yes, we definitely have [discussed it]. We’re looking – there’s nothing happening with either one of those things – but we’re definitely looking at it, and it’s definitely something I’d be open to."

This news is beyond exciting! It gives us hope that we’ll be seeing more of Ghostface. It’s interesting how Jason didn’t sugar coat that statement. Jason was blunt as he wants the rights to Scream. Blumhouse Productions is amazing with horror movies such as Insidious and Halloween. Speaking of Halloween, it did absolutely incredible grossing over $159 million domestically on a $10 million budget.

This only further proves why Jason may want more Scream movies done, as it can possibly bring in lots of money. Jason also knows what he’s doing; he’s passionate about his company and his movies.

More from Movies

The Weinstein Company was bankrupt, then it was bought by another company. The only problem that I see Jason running into is that there is a Scream TV series on MTV. Hopefully, the red tapes will be easy to cross through soon.

The things that I want to see if Scream 5 happens:

Let Kevin Williamson write and direct the movies: No one knows these movies better than Williamson himself. This is his baby. He wrote all the Scream movies. Wes Craven directed all the movies, so it is his movies as well. Unfortunately, Craven passed away in August 2015 from brain cancer at his house. I feel if Kevin directs the next movie, Craven would be proud of Williamson. Also, let him do his thing. Seriously. I don’t want to see a studio clash with Williamson.

Bring the original cast back: Sidney, Gale and Dewey must be back. The fans will not accept a new cast. The trio survived through four movies and we love the characters. Kevin can surely make a great storyline for the fifth installment.

I would say to make one of the original cast members the next killer to make it a twist, but that hurts my heart. One thing is for sure: If Kevin both writes and directs the future installments, I trust him to do the right thing. It is his baby after all. Also, there is good news. David Arquette expressed his interest in returning to Scream 5 if it happens. So one down, two more cast members to go. The hard work is slowly being done.

Less humor, more serious tone: For the love of God, LESS HUMOR! I want a serious movie. These are horror movies, not comedy movies. Scream 4 feels more of a comedy than a horror movie. We need to make it serious like the first three installments. That’s what made these movies amazing.

A production company that will advertise the movie: The Weinstein Company did a horrible job advertising Scream 4, which is why it probably tanked. If a new company manages to obtain the rights to the Scream franchise, please treat it right and advertise it as much as you can.

We have waited long enough for a new Scream trilogy. dark. Next

There’s a huge fanbase for this franchise and fans are waiting every day in hopes of a Scream 5 to be greenlit. Hopefully, Jason Blaum can work his magic and make this happen for the fans.
