Box office: Madea franchise couldn’t top the Dragons
By Sandy C.
Which movie did you watch in theaters this weekend? The box office numbers are in thanks to Box Office Mojo, and it’s a close call for the No. 1 movie of the weekend.
Tyler Perry’s Madea franchise has come to an end, but even the hilarious sendoff wasn’t enough to top the third How to Train Your Dragon movie. Kids (and kids at heart) have won the weekend!
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World takes the No. 1 spot with $30 million, but is only approximately $3 million in front of Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral, which gathered $27 million over the weekend. Did you find that surprising?
Alita: Battle Angel follows far behind in third with $7 million, but The LEGO Movie 2 is closer by to Alita, with $6.6 million. Keep in mind all of these numbers are early estimates. Still they give fans a pretty good idea on where they stand.
