The Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle light projection show is coming to Universal Studios

The Dark Arts take center stage in the new light projection show on Hogwarts Castle at Universal Studios.

Universal Studios has seen two projection shows on Hogwarts Castle in the past few years: “The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle” show and “The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle” show.

Now, a third show is coming to Hogwarts Castles in both Universal Studios Hollywood and at Universal Orlando Resort, and the nighttime light spectacular is inviting the Dark Arts, Harry Potter villains, and ominous creatures to take center stage.

The “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” show is described as a “powerful, original and breathtaking” projection light show experience that will likely follow a similar format to the park’s previous two shows on Hogwarts Castle. Along with lights, special effects, and a coordinating soundtrack, Harry Potter fans can expect to see dark creatures and villains taking over the castle, orchestrated by Lord Voldemort himself.

Promised to be bring more “intense tones and drama that reflect the Dark creatures and wizards that challenge goodness in the Wizarding World,” this show will also feature Dementors and Death Eaters, along with creatures Aragog, Mountain Trolls, and Thestrals (which surprises us a little bit because not all of these creatures are evil). We’re curious to see how the imagery and the story unfolds, and how the architecture and design of Hogwarts Castle will play a role as the projections evolve.

So how will guests defeat the villains in the new Dark Arts projection show? With a Patronus spell of course! Guests at Universal Studios “will be asked to summon their inner strength and bravery” in taking on the “visage” of Lord Voldemort to restore goodness and light to The Wizarding World.

When is the “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” show?

The “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” will run nightly at Hogwarts Castle in “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” only from April 13 – 28 at Universal Studios Hollywood, and then the show will return again for Memorial Day weekend, May 25 – 27. No dates have been released for Universal Orlando Resort yet, but our guess is that the show will likely coordinate with the opening of the new Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure ride that opens on June 13, 2019.
