Captain Marvel is now playing in theaters. If you’re a parent wondering if the movie is suitable for young eyes, we’re here to help!

The latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Captain Marvel. It’s the first Marvel movie to follow a female lead and a hero who will play an essential part in Avengers: Endgame. What parent wouldn’t want to take their kid to a movie that’s such an important part of Marvel history?

As a parent, though, I understand that just because it’s groundbreaking doesn’t mean we’ll have our kids sit down to watch two hours of violence and content too mature for their eyes. So where does Captain Marvel stand in the kid-friendly department?

According to Common Sense MediaCaptain Marvel is recommended for children 10 and up. Between you and me, though, that site is always a bit dramatic. If you want my opinion, kids ages 6+ are good to go! Got a mature 5-year-old? Take them, too.

Please note: I’m not an expert! To each their own. This is only my advice.

Captain Marvel is rated PG-13 for “sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and brief suggestive language.” But remember, movie ratings are only drastic guidelines just to be safe. Most movies (all of the MCU) are PG-13.

The violence featured in the movie includes fighting sequences, most of them CGI and not much blood from what I’m able to remember, and definitely nothing graphic. As for the language, it’s very mild and occurs no more than in three or four quick scenes.

Next. Being marvelous is the only ‘agenda’ for Captain Marvel. dark

What the movie does have a lot of is: positive affirmations, messages of self-confidence, a great role model and the encouragement to do what’s right. Young children, particularly little girls, will learn, and hopefully pick up, a lot of great things from the great Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).

Captain Marvel is now playing in theaters. Running time is approximately 124 minutes.
