4. Owen and Teddy talk to their baby.
Babies + medical dramas are always a cause for alarm. Has there, in the history of television, but especially medical drama television, been a single pregnancy that went off without a hitch? None immediately come to mind.
I was biting my nails watching Teddy hunch over in Maggie’s blue room. Even more so when Carina started talking about the possibility of an early labor, something Teddy was strongly against. Vowing not to let her child to come out early, she made Carina get her in the correct position – basically upside down (though there was a fancy medical term thrown around I admit I didn’t catch) – to let gravity do its thing.
Teddy’s current suitors, Owen and Tom, were bickering in the birthing class when Owen got the message Teddy was having medical issues. Even though Tom was right there, Owen doesn’t bother telling him what’s going on! Petty as heck, Hunt. He sure does play dirty when it comes to love triangles doesn’t he?
Seeing his baby mama in distress triggers Owen’s softer side (the side he’s always on with Teddy, let’s be real). He gets set up on his gurney in the same position, despite threat of puking, and together they talk to their unborn daughter. Owen offers Teddy some words of comfort, knowing she’s afraid of being a mom. Their sweet familial bonding session is cut short when Tom arrives.
He makes it clear to Owen he has no intention of going anywhere. Even if Owen decides he wants to be with Teddy again, and there is a strong chance of that happening given how much he tends to flip-flop, Tom isn’t going to step aside, he’ll fight for her because he’s in love with her.
Tom makes a good point, “your history with Teddy is that you chose Amelia,” multiple times! Owen needs to learn to let go. He’s like a child who doesn’t want to see other people playing with his toys. He only seems to want Teddy when she’s with someone else.
