After months of waiting, ABC has officially renewed The Conners for a second season.

At last! Ever since the series finale of The Conners aired on Jan. 22, we have been waiting for news if the Roseanne spin-off was going to be renewed or not. It turns out the wait was on the actors negotiating their contracts.

The deals were taking a while to finalize, but yesterday Deadline reported that was close. Today the actors signed their contracts giving the network the green light to officially renew The Conners for a second season.

ABC is extending the second season from 11 to 13 episodes. The Roseanne spin-off was apparently going to have more than 13 episodes, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, several cast members have other commitments.

The Conners is rated #2 on ABC for the 18-49 demographic averaging a 1.56, along with being rated #1 on ABC’s network for the total million viewers drawing in 7.459 million. That is absolutely incredible. It was a given that we were going to get a second season with those figures.

More from ABC

Not everyone is returning for the second season just yet. So far the only ones returning are John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Ames McNamara. Michael Fishman will not be a series regular, but it seems he may have a recurring guest-star role.

According to TVLine, Goodman, Metcalf, and Gilbert will now earn $375k an episode. In the first season, they were making $250k. Goranson is now making $165k an episode.

Bruce Helford is returning as the showrunner. Gilbert will also still serve as an executive producer. ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said in a statement:

"“We are proud to be continuing the story of the iconic Conners family. This team is fearless in their willingness to tackle contemporary issues with humor and heart, and I have no doubt they will continue to outdo themselves.”"

Karey certainly has that right. The team tackles every subject, which is fantastic. I dislike when shows are afraid of controversial topics because the audience may bash them on social media or send in letters to the studios. Pushing the boundaries is good.

I can’t wait to see how the second season goes. Season 1 was full of laughs and emotion. The Conners Season 1 finale, titled “We Continue to Truck,” was pretty interesting with multiple things going on. We need to see what happens in the new love triangle between Darlene, David, and Ben, as well as what happens between Emilio and Becky. ICE deported Emilio to Mexico and Becky has a baby on the way.
