5 top takeaways from the Supernatural Season 14, Episode 17 promo and synopsis
Supernatural Season 14 is taking a week off, but we still get a promo of the next new episode. Here’s what we can take away from the Episode 17 promo and synopsis.
It’s game night in the Winchester Men of Letters bunker. Well, it’s game night somewhere. While Supernatural Season 14, Episode 17 doesn’t air for two weeks, the promo is already out and it’s time to break it down, along with the synopsis.
There’s a fair bit to take away from the beginning of the end of the season. There are four episodes left and that means a push to the final cliffhanger — because you know, like always, the season will end with a cliffhanger. And so, here are the big five takeaways from the “Game Night” promo and synopsis.
Before we get into the breakdown, here’s a look at both. There are spoilers if you haven’t watched recent episodes or if you believe promos and synopses are spoilers.
"Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) race to help a friend in need. Meanwhile, Mary (guest star Samantha Smith) is concerned for Jack’s (Alexander Calvert) wellbeing, and Castiel (Misha Collins) enlists help from Jo/Anael (guest star Danneel Ackles) to track down a miracle."
5. Nick is back

One of the big things to take away is that Nick’s storyline is coming back into focus. The last time we saw him, he’d returned to his former home where his wife is a spirit. She’s waiting for him to choose her over Lucifer, but that isn’t happening any time soon.
Now, Nick needs the Winchesters’ help and it may be something to do with whatever he’s trying to summon at the fourth second of the promo. Interestingly, the synopsis says the Winchesters are racing to help a friend in need but I don’t think Nick is the “friend.” We move onto takeaway #4.

4. Donatello is being attacked
If you stop the promo at about 12 seconds, you’ll see the friend I think the synopsis is talking about. Donatello opens the door and is immediately attacked. I can’t work out the attacker, but it’s likely either angel or demon. After all, Donatello is a prophet.
We’ve not had that many demons. I suspect angel and it will have something to do with either another part of the storyline involving Castiel or something to do with Jack’s lack of soul. It could be linked to Nick’s storyline and the Winchesters are on a time limit.
3. Mary and Jack get some bonding time
We’ve not see Mary for a lot of the season, and we certainly haven’t seen her spend much time with Jack. After the time those two would have spent together in the Apocalypse World, that’s disappointing. But Supernatural Season 14, Episode 17 is going to change all that.
Right now, we’re worried about Jack. And we’re definitely not the only ones. The Winchesters worry about him, Castiel worries about him, and even Mary is worrying about him. I’m worrying what this will mean for others close to him after seeing what happened in the last episode!
2. It looks like Dean and Nick are on a case
At the very start of the promo, Dean and Sam are on the phone to each other. Sam wants Dean to watch his back and Dean promises to work fast. Clearly, this is going to be on the way to save a friend (likely Donatello) but it’s interesting that Sam isn’t in the car with Dean. Someone is though.
That someone seems to be Nick. It would make some sense. Nick is summoning something and he’s done something wrong, but just what has he let on the loose. Is Lucifer coming back?
1. Castiel wants to find God
The big reveal in the episode was Castiel turning to Sister Jo. The synopsis tells us he’s after a miracle, but it’s more than that. If you missed the Supernatural Season 5 storyline of Castiel going in search for God then you’ll be happy to hear it’s coming back. At least, this time he knows who God is.
Castiel’s miracle is looking for God. I speculated early on in the season that God or Amara might come back into the show. It certainly makes sense and God is a fan-favorite. So, will he turn up to help reset everything? Is this possible? First, he and Sister Jo will need to find him.
